Health Benefits
More exposure to sunlight
allows for a better mood
Past research has observed that increased sunlight is positively associated with increased rates of serotonin production in the brain. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that is closely related to mood regulation, thus higher exposure to sunlight can be linked to mood improvement in as little as a week, while a lack of sunlight is related to mood disorders, like Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD).
Gives you an energy boost
Sunlight can help give you an energy boost! When your eyes detect light, your brain is signaled to wake up and release cortisol, a neurotransmitter required to increase your metabolism and help you get through your day.
Promotes longevity
A 2014 study that looked at the sun habits of nearly 30,000 women in Sweden over the course of 20 years found that women who avoided the sun had a mortality rate twice as high as those who got a lot of sun exposure, so getting a little more sun could help you live longer!
